March 12, 2009—About five billion years from now, our sun will look like the Cat’s Eye nebula (above), named for its center’s distinctive feline shape. The formation is a planetary nebula—the glowing remnants of dust and gas generated by dying stars—and was captured by NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope.
